Bengaluru Introduces Online Portal for Khata Correction to Streamline Property Records
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has announced plans to launch a new online khata correction facility, aimed at simplifying the process of updating property records for citizens in the city. This digital initiative is designed to make property record management more efficient and accessible.
Key Features of the Online Khata Correction System
Under this new system, citizens will be able to correct most details in their khata records through an online portal. This includes updates to location and ward number, providing greater flexibility for property owners. However, it is important to note that certain critical details, such as the owner name and property measurements, will not be editable through this facility, ensuring data integrity and security.
Current Usage and Processing Times
According to officials, the GBA has already received approximately 25 lakh draft khata applications, with over 10 lakh final e-Khatas issued to date. Special Commissioner Munish Moudgil stated on Thursday that applications are typically processed within five days, provided all required documents are in order. The system is experiencing steady usage, with more than 1,000 applications submitted daily and one e-khata being issued every 30 seconds, highlighting its widespread adoption and efficiency.
Additional Measures for Fairness and Automation
To ensure transparency and fairness in the process, the GBA has established a rejection audit team. This team is tasked with reviewing and potentially reversing any unfair decisions made during the application process. Furthermore, an automatic mutation system has been implemented to handle property updates following registration and in cases of inheritance. Citizens will receive SMS alerts upon completion of these updates, keeping them informed in real-time.
Impact on Bengaluru's Property Management
This online khata correction facility represents a significant step forward in Bengaluru's efforts to digitize and streamline property record management. By reducing paperwork and processing times, it aims to enhance citizen convenience and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of property owners across the city, making it easier to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
