Bengaluru Metro Seeks Parking Operators for Nine Key Stations
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has officially launched a tender process, inviting applications from qualified parking operators to manage parking facilities at nine metro stations across Bengaluru. This initiative aims to enhance commuter convenience and streamline parking operations for a duration of one year.
Comprehensive Parking Coverage Across Major Stations
The tender encompasses parking lots at strategically located metro stations, including Mysuru Road, Madawara, Peenya Industry, JP Nagar, Baiyappanahalli (OMR Side), Ragi Gudda, BTM Layout, Electronic City-01, and Jayadeva Hospital. Collectively, these facilities span an impressive area of approximately 20,245 square metres, designed to accommodate a substantial number of vehicles.
The total capacity across all nine locations is estimated to support around 3,248 two-wheelers, 412 four-wheelers, and 10 light commercial vehicles, ensuring ample space for daily commuters and visitors.
Strict Eligibility Criteria for Bidders
BMRCL has established rigorous eligibility requirements for prospective bidders. Applicants must demonstrate at least one year of prior experience in managing parking lots for government organisations, specifically through formal tender processes. Additionally, bidders are required to show a net worth equivalent to 1.25 times the minimum reserve price for each parking lot they intend to bid on.
The minimum reserved annual licence fee varies significantly based on station size and location. For smaller stations such as Ragi Gudda and BTM Layout, the fee starts at Rs 7 lakh, while larger stations like Mysuru Road command a higher fee of up to Rs 1.06 crore.
Mandatory Infrastructure and Safety Standards
The selected parking contractor will be obligated to implement several key infrastructural upgrades to ensure efficiency and safety. These include the installation of computerised ticketing systems, comprehensive CCTV surveillance networks, adequate lighting arrangements, and essential fire safety equipment.
Parking charges will remain fixed in accordance with BMRCL's approved rates. For two-wheelers, the fee is set at Rs 15 for the first four hours, while cars will be charged Rs 30 for the same duration. Notably, bicycle parking will be offered completely free of charge at all nine stations.
Special Provisions for Bicycle Parking
BMRCL has placed particular emphasis on promoting sustainable transportation through dedicated bicycle parking facilities. The tender document specifies that licensees must allocate space for a minimum of ten bicycles at each station, positioned prominently near the entry point to ensure visibility and security.
The licensee assumes full responsibility for any loss or theft of bicycles, and clear signage advertising free bicycle parking must be displayed outside each parking lot. Furthermore, contractors are required to expand bicycle parking capacity dynamically based on increasing demand from commuters.
Operational Requirements and Timeline
Successful bidders must submit a performance security deposit equivalent to six months' licence fee and commence parking operations within 15 days of receiving the formal letter of acceptance. The initial licence term of one year may be extended by up to three months through mutual agreement between BMRCL and the contractor.
Submission Process and Accessibility
Interested parties can access and download the complete tender documents from the Karnataka Public Procurement Portal. Bids must be submitted electronically through the portal before the specified deadline, ensuring a transparent and efficient procurement process.
This tender represents a significant step in BMRCL's ongoing efforts to improve urban mobility infrastructure in Bengaluru, aligning with broader initiatives to enhance public transportation accessibility and promote eco-friendly commuting options.
