In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Ludhiana police conducted a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) across several sensitive areas within Ludhiana city. This high-profile initiative forms a crucial part of the ongoing "Yudh Nashian Virudh" (War Against Drugs) campaign, which has been aggressively launched by the Punjab government to combat substance abuse and illicit drug trade in the state.
Strategic Focus on Four High-Risk Municipal Wards
The operation was strategically concentrated on a cluster of four municipal wards, specifically identified as high-interest zones due to intelligence reports and previous incidents. The targeted localities included:
- Himmat Singh Nagar
- Dr. Ambedkar Nagar
- Manohar Nagar
- Jawahar Nagar
These areas were selected based on specific inputs suggesting potential drug-related activities, making them focal points for the police action.
Large-Scale Deployment and Leadership
The operation was executed by a specialised task force comprising 200 police personnel, demonstrating the scale and seriousness of the effort. Leadership was provided by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation), who oversaw the entire operation with robust support from a senior team. This included:
- 9 Assistant Deputy Commissioners of Police (ADCPs) or Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs)
- 16 Station House Officers (SHOs)
- Officers from various crime wings

Comprehensive Security Measures and Timing
To maximise effectiveness and prevent any disruption, the police established multiple checkpoints at all entry and exit points of the targeted wards. These checkpoints were designed to monitor and control movement, thereby preventing the potential smuggling or disposal of contraband during the operation. The search itself was conducted from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, a timeframe chosen to capitalise on early morning hours when suspects might be less alert, based on precise intelligence inputs. Police teams meticulously targeted residential properties and suspected hideouts, aiming to uncover and seize illegal substances and apprehend individuals involved in drug trafficking.
