Bescom Strengthens Power Network Ahead of Monsoon After Recent Disruptions
Bescom Strengthens Power Network Ahead of Monsoon

In a proactive move to mitigate power outages during the upcoming monsoon season, the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has significantly strengthened its power network across the city. This initiative follows recent disruptions that left several areas without electricity for extended periods.

Measures Undertaken

Bescom officials have undertaken several measures to enhance the resilience of the power infrastructure. These include trimming of tree branches near power lines, replacement of old and damaged conductors, and installation of additional lightning arrestors. The utility has also conducted a comprehensive audit of vulnerable poles and transformers, reinforcing them where necessary.

Response Teams on Standby

Despite these preparations, officials acknowledge that damage due to gusty winds and heavy rain cannot be fully ruled out. To ensure swift response during emergencies, Bescom has constituted dedicated teams equipped with necessary tools and materials. These teams will be deployed across various zones to address any power disruptions promptly.

“We have identified critical locations that are prone to faults during heavy rain and have taken preventive actions. Our field staff is on high alert, and we are coordinating with the local disaster management authorities to ensure minimal inconvenience to consumers,” said a senior Bescom official.

Consumer Advisory

Bescom has also issued an advisory urging consumers to report any power outages or safety hazards immediately through its helpline numbers and mobile app. The utility has assured that complaints will be attended to on a priority basis.

The monsoon season in Bengaluru typically begins in June and lasts until September, often bringing with it gusty winds and heavy rainfall that can cause power lines to snap or poles to collapse. With the strengthened network and rapid response mechanism, Bescom aims to reduce outage durations and improve reliability.

Residents have welcomed the move, expressing hope that this will lead to fewer interruptions compared to previous years. “Last year, we faced frequent power cuts during rains. It’s good to see Bescom taking proactive steps this time,” said a resident of Koramangala.
