Bhojpur DM Drives PNG Expansion to Reduce LPG Dependence

Bhojpur District Magistrate Orders Rapid PNG Expansion to Reduce LPG Dependence

In a significant move to curb reliance on LPG cylinders and ensure a steady gas supply, Bhojpur District Magistrate Tanai Sultania has issued directives to accelerate the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections throughout the district. This initiative aims to address gas shortages, particularly during peak demand periods, by promoting PNG as a safer and more convenient alternative.

Review Meeting Highlights Urgent Need for PNG Coverage

At a recent review meeting, DM Sultania emphasized the critical importance of widening PNG coverage to stabilize gas availability. Currently, Bhojpur district has approximately 10,000 active PNG consumers, with nearly 15,000 households having completed registration and payment but still awaiting activation. The DM ordered the swift activation of these pending connections to meet growing demand.

District-Wide Awareness Campaign and Coordination Efforts

To support this expansion, Sultania called for a comprehensive district-wide awareness campaign to educate residents on the safety and convenience of PNG. Officials have been instructed to streamline gas distribution in close coordination with major oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.

Key directives include:

  • The district supply officer must prepare an updated list of active PNG consumers and share it with the oil companies.
  • The municipal commissioner is tasked with intensifying public outreach to inform urban households about the benefits of switching to PNG.

Public Cooperation Essential for Gas Stability

DM Sultania urged residents to avoid panic booking of LPG cylinders and instead rely more on PNG, noting that public cooperation is vital to ensuring adequate gas availability across Bhojpur district. This push aligns with broader efforts to enhance energy security and reduce logistical challenges associated with cylinder-based systems.

This development underscores a proactive approach to infrastructure improvement and public welfare in the region, potentially setting a precedent for other districts facing similar gas supply issues.
