Patna: Sixty road accident victims in Bihar have benefited from cashless treatment worth up to Rs 1.5 lakh under the PM Relief Scheme, a central initiative aimed at ensuring timely medical care during emergencies. Officials confirmed that action has been taken in 87 cases so far under this scheme.
Implementation by State Transport Department
The state transport department is overseeing the program, which provides free treatment valued at up to Rs 1.5 lakh at hospitals empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The government covers the entire treatment cost for up to seven days from the accident date, allowing victims to access urgent healthcare without financial burden.
Key Details and Process
State transport commissioner Arif Ahsan stated that the benefit is available if an injured person is admitted to a designated hospital within 24 hours of the accident. He explained, “After admission, the hospital uploads the patient’s details on the online Transaction Management System (TMS). Subsequently, police verification and other required approvals are completed to facilitate treatment under the scheme.”
Focus on the Golden Hour
Officials emphasized that the initiative prioritizes medical assistance during the “golden hour,” the critical period immediately after a road accident when prompt treatment can significantly improve survival chances and reduce injury severity. Ahsan urged the public to take accident victims to the nearest designated hospital without delay.
He appealed, “Timely medical intervention can save lives. I urge everyone not to hesitate in helping injured persons access treatment under this scheme.”
