Bihar Lok Adalat Settles 20,000 E-Challan Cases, Collects Rs 5 Crore

Patna: Large crowds gathered at transport offices and court premises across Bihar on Saturday as the National Lok Adalat disposed of more than 20,000 pending e-challan cases and collected nearly Rs 5 crore under the One-Time Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme-2026.

Special Drive Across Districts

The transport department organised the special drive across all districts, allowing vehicle owners and drivers to clear long-pending traffic challans through dedicated verification and payment counters. Under the scheme, the government offered a 50% reduction in penalty amounts for people participating in the settlement process.

Revenue from Violations

Official figures released after the proceedings showed that the revenue was generated through disposal of cases related to helmet violations, seat belt offences and over-speeding.

Transport secretary Raj Kumar said the initiative was aimed at providing relief to citizens while speeding up disposal of pending traffic cases.

“The One-Time Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme-2026 is implemented with the aim of providing relief to citizens. The National Lok Adalat accelerated the disposal of old cases and increased awareness about traffic rules. For ensuring road safety, it is essential for all drivers to follow the law,” Raj said.

He added that the department would continue such public welfare initiatives and further strengthen the technology-based traffic management system to reduce road accidents and ensure safer travel.

Following the event, the department also appealed to the public to strictly follow traffic regulations, including the use of helmets and seat belts, and adherence to speed limits.
