Bihar Police Achieves 10-Day Passport Verification Target, Patna RPO Sets 2026 Goal
Bihar Police Hits 10-Day Passport Verification Target

The Regional Passport Office in Patna has announced an ambitious target. They want to complete police verification for all passport applications within ten days by the year 2026. This announcement comes on the heels of a significant achievement. Bihar Police has already successfully met this ten-day verification goal, dramatically cutting down processing times that once dragged on for months.

A Decade of Delay Ends

Police verification remains a crucial and required step for issuing any passport. No applicant receives their passport without satisfactory clearance from the police. For residents of Bihar, this faster timeline marks a major breakthrough. In the past, applicants frequently endured waits of several months just for their verification reports to be processed. The landscape has changed completely.

Technology Drives the Change

The introduction of the m-Passport Police App by the Ministry of External Affairs is the key driver behind this transformation. This digital tool has streamlined the entire procedure, making it far more efficient and rapid. As a result, passports now reach applicants much sooner than before.

In a detailed statement, the Patna RPO highlighted the current success. By December 2025, the statewide average for police verification stood at an impressive nine days. Even more notably, a full 95% of all verification reports were delivered to applicants within fifteen days.

District-Level Performance Shines

The coordinated efforts of RPO officials and police personnel across all districts are paying off. District-wise data from December 2025 reveals widespread efficiency.

Top Performers: Several districts led the way with exceptional averages.

  • Kishanganj, Munger, Nalanda, Purnia, Aurangabad, and Arwal all recorded an average verification time of just seven days.
  • Bettiah, Bhojpur, Darbhanga, East Champaran, Katihar, Madhepura, Samastipur, and Saran followed closely with an eight-day average.

Steady Performers: Other districts maintained strong results.

  • Sheikhpura, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Lakhisarai, Saharsa, and Vaishali averaged nine days.
  • Araria, Gopalganj, Jamui, and Sitamarhi completed verifications in ten days on average.

Areas for Focus: A few districts showed slightly longer times, indicating where continued efforts are needed.

  • Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Rohtas, and Supaul averaged eleven days.
  • Nawada came in at twelve days.
  • Siwan had the longest average at thirteen days.

Despite these variations, the overall statewide average held firm at nine days, demonstrating consistent improvement.

Credit to Ground-Level Efforts

The RPO statement gave full credit for this swift turnaround to the dedicated police force. It specifically praised the tireless work of the Special Branch and police personnel stationed across every district. Their commitment has been fundamental to this success.

Ongoing training sessions and interactive workshops organized by the RPO have also played a critical role. These initiatives, conducted at both the district and police station levels, focus squarely on enhancing the quality and speed of all passport-related services. The investment in human resources and technology is clearly yielding positive results for the people of Bihar.
