Bidhannagar BJP MLA Sharadwat Mukherjee and Rajarhat New Town MLA Piyush Kanodia held a meeting with Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials on Monday to discuss collaborative efforts for infrastructure improvement. The discussions focused on several pressing issues, including the poor condition of roads, clogged drainage systems, parking irregularities, and illegal constructions. The meeting was framed as a cooperative initiative to ensure that political differences do not hinder public welfare.
Key Issues Discussed
During the meeting, Mukherjee stated, "It was a courtesy visit with the BMC authorities as it was instructed to us that there should not be any disruption in civic services. There are some gaps and loopholes in some areas which have been discussed. It has been decided that the three BJP MLAs of Bidhannagar, Rajarhat Gopalpur and Rajarhat New Town, and BMC will cooperate." Both sides acknowledged the urgent need for intervention in the township's infrastructure.
Monsoon Preparedness
Kanodia emphasized the importance of timely action, saying, "Monsoon is arriving and work must be taken up so waterlogging can be prevented." This highlights the critical need to address drainage issues before the rainy season begins.
Concerns Over Building Violations
Mukherjee also raised concerns regarding structural deviations in multi-storey buildings. He noted, "If two-three flats are set up on each floor in G+3 buildings, there will be an increase in the number of families residing there. The civic authorities have been asked to look into this matter." This points to potential overloading of infrastructure and safety risks.
Response from BMC
BMC Mayor Krishna Chakraborty welcomed the feedback and assured administrative cooperation to improve civic delivery. The meeting concluded with a commitment to work together for the betterment of the area, setting aside political affiliations for the sake of public service.
