In a major relief for commuters in Deoghar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Godda, Nishikant Dubey, on Sunday inaugurated the long-awaited Shankarpur Rail Overbridge (ROB) on the busy Satsang–Bhirkhibad main road. The overbridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 37.55 crore, spans 808 metres and is expected to significantly ease congestion that has plagued the area for years due to the Naiyadih railway crossing on the Howrah–New Delhi line.
Project Details and Benefits
The foundation for the Shankarpur ROB was laid in 2016, but the project faced prolonged delays primarily due to land acquisition hurdles. With its completion, the bridge now ensures smoother and safer access to key destinations, including AIIMS Deoghar, Giridih, and Ranchi. The overbridge eliminates the need for vehicles to wait at the railway crossing, reducing travel time and improving traffic flow in the region.
Political Leaders Hail the Development
During the inauguration ceremony, MP Nishikant Dubey emphasised the rapid development of Deoghar and highlighted the necessity for more such infrastructure projects. He stated, "Deoghar is rapidly developing and more such overbridges would be required to meet the growing demands of the region." Local MLA Suresh Paswan also lauded the project, describing it as "crucial for the region" and a significant step towards improving connectivity and quality of life for residents.

The Shankarpur ROB is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters, particularly those traveling to and from Deoghar for work, education, and medical purposes. The bridge not only alleviates traffic congestion but also enhances safety by eliminating the risks associated with level crossings. Moreover, improved road connectivity is likely to boost economic activities in the surrounding areas, including trade and tourism.
The successful completion of this project marks a milestone in the infrastructure development of the Santhal Parganas region. With the support of local leaders and the administration, similar projects are anticipated to address long-standing connectivity issues in other parts of Jharkhand.
