Blinkit fined Rs 1 lakh in Noida for waste rule violations, plastic seized
Blinkit fined Rs 1 lakh for waste violations in Noida

The Noida Authority has imposed a financial penalty of Rs 1 lakh on Blink Commerce Pvt Ltd, the company operating the quick-commerce platform Blinkit. This action was taken on Monday, December 23, 2025, following an inspection at a Blinkit facility located in Sector 4 of the city.

Inspection Uncovers Public Road Violations

Officials from the Authority discovered that garbage was being dumped and burnt on a public road near the facility. This practice is a clear violation of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules of 2016. In an official statement, the Noida Authority confirmed the penalty, stating, "In view of the deficiencies found and non-compliance with SWM Rules, a financial penalty of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed." The authority also issued a stern warning, threatening further punitive action if the violations are not stopped immediately.

Part of Broader Cleanliness Drive

The inspection was led by the Public Health Officer and is part of a series of ground-level checks being conducted across Noida. The primary objective of this drive is to improve the city's ranking in the annual national cleanliness survey, Swachh Survekshan. The enforcement actions on Monday were not limited to Blinkit.

In a separate operation at Sector 8, officials inspected a cloud kitchen run by M/s KIC Food Products Pvt Ltd. During this raid, authorities seized approximately 300 kg of banned single-use plastic. Furthermore, anti-plastic drives were carried out in the H Block and X Block markets of Sector 11, where an additional 45 kg of single-use plastic was confiscated from various shopkeepers.

A Pattern of Non-Compliance

This recent penalty on Blinkit follows a much larger fine imposed on the same company earlier in December. On December 16, the Noida Authority had levied a fine of Rs 5 lakh on a Blinkit cloud kitchen in Sector 62 for similar breaches of solid waste management and plastic ban norms.

That earlier inspection revealed severe lapses, including failure to segregate waste at source, direct discharge of liquid waste into sewer lines, and handing over garbage to unauthorized scrap dealers. These dealers were allegedly dumping the waste at multiple locations throughout Noida. Officials also found about 50 kg of single-use plastic containers and noted that food waste had been dumped in nearby parks and open spaces. The Authority had labeled these practices as "unacceptable for bulk waste generators."

The repeated penalties highlight the ongoing challenges in enforcing environmental and public health regulations, especially as quick-commerce and cloud kitchen models expand rapidly in urban areas.
