Census 2027 Self-Enumeration Process Launches Across Multiple States

The self-enumeration initiative for house listing as part of the upcoming Census 2027 is set to begin on Thursday and will continue through April 30. This voluntary online process allows residents to submit their household details conveniently from their homes.

Voluntary Participation with Official Support

Officials have clarified that self-enumeration is entirely optional. For individuals who are unable to complete the online forms, census teams will be available to assist and fill out the necessary information manually. The questionnaire for this phase consists of 33 questions focused solely on household characteristics, with no personal or individual-level data being collected.

States Participating in the Initial Phase

In addition to Haryana, the self-enumeration facility will simultaneously launch in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Chhattisgarh. This coordinated effort aims to streamline data collection and enhance participation across these regions.

Two-Phase Census Implementation

The census will be conducted in two distinct phases. The first phase, dedicated to house listing, will run from May 1 to May 30. During this period, census enumerators will visit households to verify the information submitted online and record details for those who did not participate in the digital process. The second phase, the actual population census, is scheduled from February 9 to February 28, 2027.

Registration and Data Submission Process

Gurgaon’s Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sonu Bhatt, emphasized the convenience of the self-enumeration process. "This is not mandatory, but we urge people to use this self-enumeration process as it will be more convenient and save the time of the residents," he stated. Residents can access the official portal at se.census.gov.in to register their information.

To begin, participants must enter the name of the head of the household and a mobile number. It is important to note that only one household can be registered per mobile number. After selecting their preferred language, users will need to specify their city and district and provide the exact location of their residence.

Comprehensive Household Questionnaire

The subsequent question-and-answer section covers a wide range of topics related to the household. Key areas include:

  • The main materials used in the walls and roof of the house
  • The use and condition of the dwelling
  • The total number of persons residing in the household
  • The name, gender, and social category of the head of the family

Additional details required encompass:

  1. Ownership status of the house
  2. Number of available rooms
  3. Number of married couples living in the household
  4. Main source of drinking water and its availability
  5. Primary source of electricity
  6. Toilet facilities and their type
  7. Drainage of wastewater and availability of a bathroom

Further information to be provided includes:

  • Availability of a kitchen and LPG or PNG connection
  • Fuel used for cooking
  • The staple grain consumed by the household
  • Number of radios, televisions, laptops or computers, mobile phones, vehicles, and internet connections

Final Submission and Verification

After carefully reviewing all entered data, participants can submit their information. Upon submission, a unique self-enumeration ID will be displayed on the screen. It is crucial to take a screenshot or photograph of this ID, as it will also be sent via SMS and email. This ID must be presented to census enumerators during their door-to-door verification visits to facilitate the process.

This streamlined approach aims to enhance accuracy and efficiency in data collection for Census 2027, leveraging technology to engage citizens actively in the national exercise.
