The training of nearly 2.3 lakh enumerators and supervisors for the upcoming house-to-house census-linked enumeration exercise in Maharashtra will be completed by May 10, with field visits starting from May 16, census officials said on Thursday.
Field Visit Schedule and Precautions
Enumerators have been instructed to visit homes either early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the afternoon heat. Citizens have been urged to cooperate, verify the identity cards of enumerators before sharing information, and treat them courteously.
Training Process and Targets
Dr. Nirupama J Dange, joint secretary to the Government of India and chief principal census officer for Maharashtra, told TOI that the training process has been smooth with full attendance. "Staff training is underway and will be completed by May 10. Each official has been assigned a target of around 800 people or one housing block. The entire process is digital and can be completed quickly," Dange added.
Important Guidelines for Citizens
Officials emphasized that no physical forms will be filled during the exercise. Citizens should not share bank account details, Aadhaar numbers, or any information beyond the prescribed questions. "People must ensure that only the 33 designated questions are answered and nothing beyond that," Dange said.
Self-Enumeration Option
The self-enumeration process began on May 1 across the state and remains open until May 15. Citizens can visit the official website to fill in the questions online.
