Chandigarh MC Issues 112 Challans in Major Drive Against Illegal Vendors
Chandigarh MC cracks down on illegal vendors, issues 112 challans

The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Chandigarh launched a significant enforcement drive across the city on Friday, targeting illegal vendors operating in public spaces. The action was taken to ensure the smooth flow of pedestrian traffic, uphold public order, and protect the city's meticulously planned infrastructure from encroachments.

Major Crackdown on Encroachments

Teams from the civic body conducted thorough inspections in several key markets and public areas. The focus was on vendors who had set up stalls on public land, footpaths, and road corridors, obstructing movement and violating municipal norms. The drive resulted in the issuance of a total of 112 challans (fines), all under the relevant provisions of the Municipal Act.

This decisive action underscores the MC's commitment to maintaining the aesthetic and functional integrity of Chandigarh's public spaces. By clearing these unauthorized setups, authorities aim to restore free movement for citizens and preserve the city's unique urban character.

City Leaders Welcome Nagar Kirtan Procession

In a separate but equally significant event, Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla and Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar formally welcomed a Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) organized to mark the Prakash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The procession, a vibrant display of faith and community spirit, commenced from Gurdwara Sahib in Sector 34 and culminated at Sector 8.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from a wide cross-section of devotees, including the Panj Pyare, skilled Gatka (martial arts) groups, and various religious organizations. The presence of the city's top officials highlighted the administration's respect for the cultural and religious traditions of its residents.

Release of the Municipal Corporation's 2026 Calendar

Adding to the day's engagements, Mayor Babla and Commissioner Amit Kumar jointly released the Annual Wall Calendar for the year 2026 of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. The calendar serves as an official document and often features themes highlighting the city's governance, achievements, and landmarks.

The coordinated efforts of the MC—enforcing civic rules while actively participating in community celebrations—reflect a balanced approach to urban administration. The crackdown on illegal vending is expected to continue as part of ongoing efforts to ensure a clean, orderly, and citizen-friendly city environment.
