Chas Corporation Cracks Down on Illegal Constructions

The Chas Municipal Corporation has initiated a stringent enforcement drive against under-construction buildings allegedly raised without approved maps or legal permissions, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Inspection and Identification of Illegal Structures

Civic officials conducted inspections across the corporation's jurisdiction and identified multiple unauthorized constructions. Work on these illegal buildings has been halted immediately. Notices are being served to the owners, instructing them to appear before the corporation office with all necessary documents. Officials warned that those failing to respond within the stipulated deadline could face demolition of the illegal structures.

Strict Action Warned

Chas civic body additional commissioner Sanjeev Kumar stated, “Illegal constructions would not be tolerated under any circumstances. The campaign would continue. Strict legal action would be taken against those flouting municipal rules under the Municipal Act.” The drive reflects the corporation's zero-tolerance policy towards unauthorized development.

Regularisation Process for Existing Structures

In a parallel move, the civic body has commenced the process of regularising temporary and unauthorized structures under the Jharkhand Regularisation of Unauthorised Constructed Building Rules, 2026. Officials explained, “Property owners must apply on the Building Plan Approval Management System portal within 60 days of the notification. Offline applications will not be accepted under any circumstances. They must also prepare updated building maps through licensed architects or engineers based on the current status of the structure.”

The corporation’s twin approach of enforcement and regularisation aims to tighten urban planning compliance while offering eligible property owners a limited opportunity to legalise existing buildings. This strategy is designed to bring order to urban development and ensure that all constructions adhere to safety and legal standards.
