Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Saturday emphasized the need for the judiciary to address the pain and aspirations of the common man through an immediate relief-giving mechanism. Speaking at a seminar organized by the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Culture & Information Centre, he stressed that the judicial system should function like hospitals that operate round-the-clock.
Technology as a Constitutional Instrument
CJI Kant asserted that the use of technology is not a matter of choice or luxury but a constitutional instrument to achieve the mandate of easy and prompt justice for the people. He called for deepening technology and artificial intelligence (AI)-based judicial architecture to expedite justice delivery. "Indian judiciary is committed to ensuring optimum utilisation of not only technological advancements that have been integral to our system since 1990, but also of the latest AI designs and how we can use them for the benefit of the common man," he said.
Deepening AI in Judicial Architecture
"We should think of deepening technology and AI-based judicial architecture. Technology is the only effective answer to wasting judicial time," CJI Kant remarked. He praised the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the state government for creating a digital platform that ensures timely release of prisoners, urgent hearing of cases, and digitalization of court orders. He expressed hope that the work done by the Madhya Pradesh High Court would be emulated across the country for greater use of technology in the judicial system.
Chief Minister’s Remarks
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, in his address, referred to Raja Vikramaditya’s justice dispensation system and said his commitment to justice continues to inspire people. He highlighted that innovations and the use of technology play a crucial role in making the judicial system simple and transparent. "The use of technology will help the judicial system get rid of the heap of files," he said.
