Kolhapur: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced that no major public programmes would be held over the next six months as part of austerity measures, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal.
Austerity Measures Announced
Speaking in Kolhapur, Fadnavis stated that the decision aims to cut unnecessary expenditure and set an example of fiscal discipline. He urged all government departments to adopt similar cost-cutting measures.
Fuel Price Comparison
Fadnavis also compared fuel price trends globally, highlighting the government's efforts to keep prices stable. He said: "Fuel prices have risen sharply worldwide. In the US, prices are up by 51%, while in several developed countries by around 30%. In Pakistan, the prices have risen by 200%. In India, the increase has been limited to 3.5%."
He attributed this to the central government's prudent economic policies and efficient management of global oil price fluctuations.
The chief minister's announcement comes amid rising concerns over inflation and the need for fiscal consolidation. The move is expected to save significant public funds, which can be redirected towards development projects.
