Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has directed officials to send SMS alerts to beneficiaries of the additional milk subsidy scheme, ensuring timely information about aid disbursement. The directive comes as the animal husbandry portfolio remains unallocated to any minister.
Directive for Transparency
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for transparency and efficiency in the distribution of subsidies. By leveraging SMS alerts, the government aims to keep beneficiaries informed about the status of their financial assistance, reducing delays and confusion.
Currently, the animal husbandry department, which oversees the milk subsidy scheme, has not been assigned to a specific minister. This has raised concerns about administrative oversight, but the CM's intervention seeks to streamline the process.
Background of the Scheme
The additional milk subsidy scheme was introduced to support dairy farmers and low-income households. Beneficiaries receive financial aid to offset rising costs of milk production and consumption. However, issues with communication and disbursement had led to complaints from affected families.
With the new SMS alert system, beneficiaries will receive real-time updates on subsidy credits, helping them plan their finances better. The government expects this move to enhance trust in the welfare program.
Officials have been instructed to ensure the SMS system is operational across all districts, covering all registered beneficiaries. The CM has also asked for a progress report within a week.
