CMRS Commences Critical Safety Inspection of Indore's Extended Metro Network
The Commission of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has initiated a comprehensive safety and readiness assessment of Indore's newly-extended 17.5-kilometer metro corridor. This crucial inspection, which began on Sunday, focuses specifically on the 11.5-kilometer segment stretching from Super Corridor to Radisson Square.
Expert Team Led by CMRS Director Conducts Thorough Evaluation
Under the leadership of CMRS Director Nilabhra Sengupta, a six-member team of technical experts has commenced the detailed inspection process starting from Super Corridor Station No. 2. This evaluation represents the final mandatory regulatory step that must be completed before the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL) can officially open this significant metro extension to the public.
The metro trains will undergo rigorous testing at speeds reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour between Super Corridor-2 and Radisson Square stations. This high-speed testing is designed to thoroughly evaluate the braking systems and emergency response protocols under operational conditions.
Comprehensive Systems Audit Underway
The inspection team is conducting a meticulous audit of multiple critical systems including:
- Viaduct tracks and structural integrity
- Advanced signaling systems
- Electrical networks and power distribution
- Rolling stock and train components
- Entry and exit gate mechanisms
- Elevator and lift functionality
- Overall station accessibility features
To facilitate an uninterrupted and thorough inspection process, regular metro services operating on the Super Corridor route have been temporarily suspended. This suspension will remain in effect until March 18 to ensure the safety evaluation proceeds without operational interference.
Preparatory Walkthrough and Ongoing Work
In anticipation of the CMRS inspection, MPMRCL Managing Director S Krishna Chaitanya conducted an extensive preparatory walkthrough of the entire route. This comprehensive review covered stations from Radisson Square through Vijay Nagar, Meghdoot Garden, Bapat Square, Hira Nagar, and beyond.
"During the walkthrough, Chaitanya directed officials to ensure all passenger facilities and safety protocols were operating at peak condition," according to metro corporation sources.
Despite the ongoing inspection, construction work continues at an accelerated pace at various stations. At Vijay Nagar station, only one entry/exit gate has been completed to date. Consequently, the second gate located near the Vijay Nagar Police Station has been excluded from this initial CMRS inspection round and will undergo separate evaluation at a later date.
Station-Specific Progress Updates
At other key stations along the route, significant progress is evident:
- Meghdoot Garden Station: Elevators have been successfully installed, with finishing touches being applied to civil structures
- Radisson Square Station: Similar elevator installations completed alongside final civil work
While track laying and signaling work has been fully completed across the entire stretch, officials acknowledge that minor aesthetic enhancements and passenger convenience improvements are still being finalized simultaneously with the safety inspection process.
The successful completion of this CMRS inspection will mark a significant milestone for Indore's urban transportation infrastructure, potentially bringing enhanced connectivity to thousands of daily commuters across the city's expanding metro network.
