The Delhi Traffic Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) jointly conducted a comprehensive four-day anti-encroachment and unauthorised parking drive across the national capital from June 3 to June 6. The operation covered 144 locations, including major arterial roads, footpaths, service lanes, markets, and other congestion-prone areas.
Key Actions Taken
During the drive, authorities removed at least 1,264 rehri-patri encroachments and 1,015 other illegal structures. Temporary kiosks, illegal extensions, and unauthorised commercial displays were cleared from public spaces. Additionally, 3,123 vehicles that were illegally parked or obstructing roads and footpaths were impounded or towed away. In total, 55,532 challans were issued for various violations.
Phase-Wise Implementation
Officials stated that the first phase of the drive focused on six specific locations: M-Block Market in Greater Kailash-I, Kamla Nagar, Hauz Khas, Qutub Road, Nizamuddin Basti, and Parade Ground. Notably, designated parking facilities in these areas were reportedly underutilised, prompting the enforcement action.
The second phase of the drive will cover Saket, Green Park, Alaknanda, Geeta Colony, Laxmi Nagar, and Karkardooma Courts.

The MCD commissioner emphasised the civic body's zero-tolerance approach towards illegal occupation of public land. He urged residents, market associations, and resident welfare associations (RWAs) to cooperate with the authorities to maintain order.
The Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) appealed to motorists to avoid parking on roads and footpaths and encouraged the use of designated parking spaces to ensure smooth traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
