Delhi Government Implements Strict Ban on Direct LPG Cylinder Sales from Godowns
The Delhi government has taken decisive action by imposing a stringent ban on the direct sale of LPG cylinders from storage godowns, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta warning of severe consequences for any violations. This move aims to regulate the supply chain and prevent potential shortages in the capital.
Enhanced Monitoring and Delivery System
In an official statement released on Sunday, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that LPG supply is being closely monitored to ensure compliance with established norms. Residents have been strongly advised against visiting gas agencies or storage points in person, as booked cylinders are being delivered directly to homes within the stipulated timeframe.
"Residents should rely on the home delivery system and avoid gathering in crowds at distribution points," Gupta stated, according to reports from news agency PTI. The government has clarified that Oil Marketing Companies have instructed all distributors that direct sales from storage locations are illegal and will not be tolerated.
Expanded Access to 5-Kg Cylinders
To address supply concerns, particularly for migrant workers and temporary residents, the Delhi government has significantly expanded the availability of 5-kg LPG cylinders. These smaller cylinders can now be purchased from authorized gas agencies simply by presenting a valid identification document, eliminating the need for address verification.
Additionally, the administration has established eleven dedicated help desks at select HPCL outlets across the city. These desks are designed to assist consumers in locating nearby distributors and navigating the updated LPG procurement process.
Delivery Statistics and Control Measures
Recent data reveals robust LPG delivery activity in Delhi. On April 4 alone, authorities recorded 1,14,679 LPG bookings with 1,31,335 cylinders successfully delivered to consumers. The current average delivery time for domestic LPG stands at approximately 4.24 days, indicating a functional and responsive distribution system.
To combat hoarding and black marketing, the government has established a dedicated control room equipped with specialized helplines: 011-23-37-9836 and 838-382-4659. This initiative represents a proactive approach to maintaining market integrity and ensuring fair access to essential cooking fuel.
Enforcement Actions and Supply Assurance
Law enforcement agencies have already begun implementing the new regulations. Delhi Police conducted targeted raids at seventeen locations suspected of violating LPG distribution protocols, while the Food and Supplies Department carried out inspections at seventy-six gas agencies and storage facilities.
Chief Minister Gupta reassured citizens that "LPG supply in Delhi is fully stable and under control," urging the public to remain calm, disregard unfounded rumors, and trust the established delivery mechanisms. The comprehensive approach combines regulatory measures, expanded access options, and enforcement actions to create a more secure and efficient LPG distribution network throughout the national capital.
