Delhi Government to Establish High-Tech Laboratories in ITIs for Enhanced Skill Development
In a significant move to bolster vocational training and employment opportunities, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday that the state government will establish high-tech laboratories in four Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and upgrade existing facilities. This initiative aims to better align vocational education with current industry demands, thereby boosting job creation and youth employability across the capital.
Focus on Emerging Sectors to Modernize Training
The new laboratories will concentrate on key emerging sectors, including power electronics, electric vehicles (EVs), advanced automotive systems, welding, and virtual reality (VR)-based simulation. Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that these modern labs are designed to strengthen technical skills and provide trainees with exposure to real-world industrial practices, opening up avenues for both employment and self-employment.
"These state-of-the-art facilities will not only enhance practical knowledge but also prepare our youth for the evolving job market," the CM stated, highlighting the government's commitment to skill development.
Detailed Breakdown of Laboratory Upgrades Across ITIs
The initiative includes specific upgrades at multiple ITI locations:
- ITI Jahangirpuri: A state-of-the-art power electronics lab will be set up to offer hands-on training in industrial automation, renewable energy systems, and electrical control technologies. This facility is expected to train approximately 480 students in trades such as electrician, electronics mechanic, and motor vehicle technician.
- ITI Jail Road in Hari Nagar: The welding lab will be upgraded with modern equipment, including MIG and TIG welding systems, plasma cutting machines, and simulation-based training tools. Around 200 trainees will benefit from exposure to advanced fabrication techniques and improved safety protocols.
- ITI Arab Ki Sarai in Nizamuddin: Automotive labs will be modernized with advanced technology, featuring VR simulators for driving, welding, and painting. New modules on systems like ABS and airbags will help trainees learn diagnostics of modern vehicles, benefiting over 200 students.
- HJB ITI in Mayur Vihar: An EV lab will be established, focusing on battery management systems, electric motors, and charging infrastructure. This facility aims to train about 180 students in next-generation automotive technologies, supporting Delhi's transition towards green mobility.
Alignment with National Skill Development Goals
An official noted that this initiative aligns with the central government's Skill India mission, which seeks to enhance vocational training nationwide. By strengthening industry linkages and improving job readiness, the upgraded ITI network in Delhi is expected to play a crucial role in meeting the capital's workforce needs and fostering economic growth.
