Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Inspects Saheli Pink Smart Card Implementation on DTC Bus
On Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta embarked on a journey aboard a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus to personally assess the rollout of the Saheli Pink Smart Card initiative. This program, launched by President Droupadi Murmu on Monday, is designed to provide free travel for women and transgender residents of the national capital on DTC buses, replacing the previous pink paper ticket system.
Enhancing Public Transport with Digital Innovation
The Saheli Pink Smart Card is a key component of the 'one nation, one card' initiative, aimed at offering seamless access to multiple public transport systems through a single card. During her bus ride, Chief Minister Gupta interacted with commuters, emphasizing the convenience and benefits of this new digital solution. She highlighted that the card enables touch-free travel, maintains digital journey records, and improves transparency in revenue accounting for the transport corporation.
"For the mothers, sisters, and daughters of Delhi, this is an extremely convenient arrangement," Gupta stated. "This card is being made for free at various centers in the city. Just get yourself registered with your Aadhaar number and mobile number, and avail the benefit of free travel on DTC buses." She further appealed to all eligible women to obtain the Saheli Pink National Mobility Card (NCMC) and utilize this facility fully.
Features and Eligibility of the Smart Card
Each Saheli Pink Smart Card is linked to the beneficiary's Aadhaar and mobile number to verify age, gender, and Delhi residency, ensuring that only eligible individuals can access the free travel benefits. While travel on DTC and cluster buses is free for those who qualify, the card also supports paid journeys on other public transport services, such as the Delhi Metro and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), making it a versatile tool for urban mobility.
During her inspection, Chief Minister Gupta personally obtained a smart card and engaged with women passengers on the bus, gathering feedback and promoting awareness about the initiative. This hands-on approach underscores the government's commitment to improving public transport accessibility and digital integration in Delhi's infrastructure.
