Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Takes Metro Ride, Urges Public Transport Use

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday took a metro ride as part of the 'Metro Monday' campaign, urging citizens to use public transport to combat pollution and traffic congestion in the national capital.

CM Leads by Example

Gupta boarded the metro from the Vishwavidyalaya station and traveled to the Rajiv Chowk station, interacting with commuters along the way. She emphasized the importance of public transport in reducing the city's carbon footprint and easing traffic woes.

“I appeal to all Delhiites to use public transport whenever possible. The metro is not only convenient but also environmentally friendly. Every small step counts towards a cleaner and greener Delhi,” the CM said.

Metro Monday Campaign

The 'Metro Monday' initiative was launched to encourage office-goers and residents to use the Delhi Metro at least once a week. The campaign aims to reduce the number of private vehicles on the road, thereby cutting down air pollution and travel time.

Delhi Metro officials welcomed the CM's participation and noted a significant increase in ridership on Mondays since the campaign began. Special discounts and passes have been introduced to attract more commuters.

Public Response

Commuters appreciated the CM's gesture, with many taking selfies and sharing their experiences on social media. “It’s great to see our CM using the metro. It sets a positive example for all of us,” said a passenger.

Environmental activists have also lauded the move, calling it a step in the right direction. “Public transport is the backbone of sustainable urban mobility. Political leaders using it sends a powerful message,” said an activist.

The Delhi government plans to extend the campaign to other modes of public transport, including buses and shared mobility services, in the coming months.
