New Delhi Launches Dedicated Control Room for Census 2027 Houselisting
In a significant move to streamline the preparatory phase for the upcoming national census, the New Delhi district administration has established a specialized control room. This facility, announced by officials on Tuesday, is designed to ensure the seamless execution of houselisting operations for Census 2027.

The control room serves as a central hub for real-time coordination with field officials engaged in the houselisting exercise. Its primary functions include facilitating communication among teams and providing immediate police assistance when necessary, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and security during the data collection process.
Scope and Timeline of Houselisting Phase
Currently, the houselisting phase is exclusively underway in the New Delhi district. It commenced on April 16 and is scheduled to continue until May 15. This phase is a critical preliminary step before the full enumeration, involving the detailed listing of households and buildings.
Organizational Structure and Progress
Authorities have meticulously organized the district into 578 house listing blocks (HBLs). Of these, 482 blocks fall under the jurisdiction of nine charge officers in the New Delhi sub-division, while the remaining 96 are managed by a single charge officer in the Delhi Cantonment sub-division.
A total of 578 enumerators, supported by their supervisors, have completed the preparation of physical layout maps. This foundational work has accelerated in recent days, with significant progress reported.
