In a significant move to enhance regional mobility, the Delhi government has announced plans to deploy 50 environment-friendly air-conditioned buses across 17 interstate routes. This initiative aims to strengthen connectivity with neighboring states and provide passengers with more reliable and comfortable travel options.
Expanding Interstate Transport Network
According to official sources, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will operate 12-meter AC buses for these interstate services. The fares will be regulated based on benchmark rates prescribed by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings, ensuring standardized and affordable pricing across all routes.
Current and Planned Routes
The expansion builds on existing interstate transport services. DTC has already introduced electric buses on key routes connecting Delhi to nearby towns, including Baraut in Uttar Pradesh and Sonipat, Dharuhera, and Panipat in Haryana. Officials report that these routes have significantly improved last-mile connectivity and offered a dependable alternative for daily commuters traveling between Delhi and adjoining regions.
Several new routes are currently in the pipeline, including:
- Nanaksar Delhi–Ghaziabad bus terminal
- Delhi–Rewari
- Delhi–Karnal
- Delhi–Rohtak
- Delhi–Alwar
- Delhi–Jewar
These routes are expected to greatly benefit daily commuters from the National Capital Region (NCR) while boosting connectivity with major towns in Haryana and Rajasthan. Notably, the Delhi–Jewar route is anticipated to improve access to the upcoming Noida International Airport.
Focus on Passenger Convenience
Route planning has been meticulously conducted, taking into account passenger demand, traffic flow, and regional connectivity needs. This approach aims to ensure better frequency, reduced travel time, and enhanced last-mile access for commuters.
Promoting Religious Tourism
The Delhi government is also placing emphasis on promoting religious tourism. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh revealed that bus services are being planned to major religious destinations such as Katra (home to the Vaishno Devi shrine), Khatu Shyam, and Ayodhya. The objective is to provide devotees with safer and more convenient travel options from the national capital to these sacred sites.
Exploring Additional Connectivity
Furthermore, the government is exploring the feasibility of launching interstate bus services between Delhi and Bihar, considering the substantial Poorvanchali population residing in the city. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed soon to operationalize this connectivity and strengthen transport links between the two regions.

Strengthening interstate connectivity remains a priority, alongside efforts to expand access to religious destinations."
