Delhi Mayor Reviews Monsoon Prep, Sanitation Drive

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi conducted a high-level meeting on Monday to review the city's preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. The meeting focused on ensuring that all necessary measures are in place to prevent waterlogging and minimize inconvenience to residents during the rains.

Key Decisions and Directives

The Mayor directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials to expedite the desilting of drains and ensure that all stormwater drainage systems are fully functional before the onset of the monsoon. She emphasized the need for a robust sanitation drive to clear garbage and debris from drains and water bodies.

Sanitation Drive Intensified

Oberoi instructed the MCD to launch a special sanitation campaign across all 12 zones of the city. The drive will involve the deployment of additional sanitation workers and the use of modern machinery for cleaning. Citizens are urged to cooperate by not littering and ensuring that waste is disposed of properly.

Emergency Response Teams

The Mayor announced the formation of emergency response teams to handle any monsoon-related emergencies. These teams will be equipped with pumps, generators, and other necessary equipment to quickly address waterlogging incidents. Control rooms will be set up in each zone to monitor the situation round the clock.

Focus on Disease Prevention

With the monsoon season increasing the risk of vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria, the Mayor stressed the importance of fogging and anti-larvae spraying in vulnerable areas. The health department has been asked to stockpile medicines and ensure that hospitals are prepared to handle any outbreak.

Public Awareness Campaign

The MCD will launch a public awareness campaign to educate residents about preventive measures against waterborne diseases. Pamphlets and social media posts will highlight the importance of using mosquito nets, keeping surroundings clean, and reporting stagnant water.

The Mayor also reviewed the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of new drains and the repair of existing ones. She directed officials to expedite these projects to ensure they are completed before the monsoon intensifies.

Residents have welcomed the proactive measures, hoping that this year's monsoon will be better managed compared to previous years when waterlogging caused significant disruptions. The MCD has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a smooth monsoon season for Delhiites.
