Delhi Mayor Takes Metro to Office, Urges Employees to Use Public Transport
Delhi Mayor Travels by Metro, Promotes Public Transport

New Delhi: A day after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) issued an advisory urging its employees to use public transport, adopt carpooling, and prefer virtual meetings to conserve fuel, reduce pollution, and ease traffic congestion, Mayor Pravesh Wahi traveled to his office by metro on Thursday.

The advisory specifically recommends that employees residing in nearby localities opt for carpooling. An official stated that staff have been instructed not to use personal vehicles for routine commuting and non-essential travel.

According to the mayor's office, Wahi took an e-rickshaw from New Delhi metro station to reach his office. He emphasized his commitment to using public transport following the Prime Minister's appeal. "If everyone collectively takes initiative in this direction, serious issues such as fuel wastage, air pollution, and traffic congestion in Delhi can be significantly reduced," Wahi added.

To minimize avoidable travel and save time and resources, official meetings, review sessions, consultations, and inter-departmental discussions should be conducted through videoconferencing and other virtual platforms as much as possible, the official said.

Department heads and controlling officers have been directed to sensitize employees about sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
