The Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi has sanctioned a substantial sum of Rs 25.23 crore for a critical infrastructure project aimed at remodelling an existing reinforced cement concrete (RCC) drain. This initiative, approved under the North Roads Division, targets the stretch from the Narela railway crossing to a major outfall near the Delhi Jal Board office along the Narela-Bawana road. The official order, issued by the Delhi Government, underscores the project's importance in addressing persistent waterlogging issues, particularly during the monsoon season.
Project Details and Objectives
The remodelling project, falling under Sub Division NR-13, is based on the master drainage plan for the region. Its primary objective is to strengthen the drainage network and enhance stormwater discharge capabilities in an area prone to frequent waterlogging. Officials have outlined that the work will involve upgrading and reconstructing sections of the drain to increase its capacity, ensuring a more efficient flow of stormwater and mitigating flood risks.
Financial and Quality Standards
The sanction has been granted with detailed conditions to ensure strict adherence to financial, technical, and quality standards. According to the order, the executing agency must comply with all prescribed guidelines, including procurement norms, rigorous quality checks, and adherence to specified timelines. Importantly, the project is to be completed within the sanctioned cost, with no provision for cost escalation, and includes a defect liability period of five years to guarantee long-term durability.

To promote transparency and accountability, the order mandates that payments to contractors be made exclusively through electronic transfers. The project will undergo regular monitoring, with requirements for quarterly progress reports and maintenance of updated records.
