Delhi Transforms Discarded Buses into Mobile Sanitation Hubs for Women
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has launched an innovative project to address women's sanitation needs in crowded public spaces. MCD officials have identified fourteen strategic locations across the city where abandoned buses will receive a complete makeover. These vehicles will emerge as fully functional mobile toilet facilities designed exclusively for women.
Partnership Drives the Initiative Forward
MCD has joined forces with the Pinki Charitable Trust to bring this vision to reality. The NGO will handle the conversion process, turning old condemned buses into distinctive pink toilet units. Pinki Charitable Trust will also assume responsibility for day-to-day operations and ongoing maintenance once the facilities become operational.
Project coordinators will submit detailed feasibility reports to the environment management services department within seven days. These reports will pave the way for a formal Memorandum of Understanding between MCD and the charitable trust. The entire rollout should complete within the next few months.

MCD has selected high-footfall areas where permanent sanitation infrastructure remains inadequate. The fourteen designated spots include:

Implementation Timeline and Site Preparation
MCD has issued clear directives to its zonal offices. Officials must finalize exact installation sites at all fourteen locations within the next week. Zonal executive engineers will conduct joint inspections with representatives from Pinki Charitable Trust.
These inspections will verify the availability of essential sewer connections and water supply at each proposed site. Engineers must ensure selected locations do not disrupt pedestrian movement or vehicular traffic. Every site must meet all practical feasibility criteria before installation proceeds.
