Delhi to renovate 2,416 flats for slum dwellers

In a significant push for urban rehabilitation, the Delhi government has issued a strict directive to complete the renovation of 2,416 ready-built flats for slum dwellers by January 15. The order was finalized during the 34th Board Meeting of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), which was chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Renovation and Basic Amenities Take Priority

The core directive focuses on the 2,416 flats located in Sawda Ghevra. Officials have been instructed that the allocation of these homes to beneficiaries will only commence after essential services like water supply, electricity, sanitation, and other basic utilities are fully operational. This ensures that families moving in will have a dignified and functional living environment from day one.

The comprehensive review in the DUSIB meeting also covered the progress of the Atal Canteen Project and the expansion of various facilities within existing DUSIB colonies.

Widespread Development Projects Approved

Beyond the Sawda Ghevra project, the board granted approvals for major renovation works across several areas of the national capital. These include repair works for flats in Sultanpuri, renovation of flats in Dwarka, and various repair initiatives in the Bhalswa area.

In a move to bolster healthcare access, the board also approved the establishment of 124 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs within DUSIB colonies, bringing primary healthcare closer to residents.

Focus on Holistic Colony Infrastructure

The government's vision extends beyond just housing. Officials have been tasked with ensuring the development of supporting infrastructure. This includes setting up e-rickshaw charging stations, providing adequate parking facilities, and creating essential commercial spaces such as vegetable booths, milk kiosks, and shops for daily necessities.

According to a press note from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), comprehensive layout plans for all these approved projects will be presented and reviewed in the next board meeting, ensuring a structured and transparent implementation process.
