Delhi Water Pressure Alert: DJB Warns Residents

Delhi Jal Board Issues Water Pressure Alert for Multiple Areas

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) issued a crucial alert on Thursday, warning residents across the national capital about reduced water pressure in numerous localities for the coming days. This advisory comes as a direct consequence of elevated pollutant levels detected in the Yamuna River, significantly impacting water treatment operations.

Pollution in Yamuna Affects Water Production

According to the official notification, areas serviced by the Wazirabad and Chandrawal Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) are experiencing a substantial reduction in water production, estimated at approximately 25% to 50%. The DJB explicitly stated via social media, "Water Alert!! Due to regular receipt of high pollutants in River Yamuna at Wazirabad pond, the water production has been affected approx. 25-50% at Water Treatment Plant of Wazirabad & Chandrawal WTP."

The board further clarified that water supply will remain at low pressure until the situation shows improvement. This disruption underscores the ongoing challenges in managing water resources amidst environmental concerns.

Proactive Measures for Yamuna Rejuvenation

In a related development, the Delhi Jal Board approved a significant initiative on Wednesday aimed at revitalizing the Yamuna River. The board greenlit a Decentralised Sewage Treatment Project (DSTP) in Zindpur, which involves the construction of a 15 MGD (million gallons per day) sewage treatment plant along with pumping stations.

This project is designed to intercept waste from the Palla group of colonies, which currently flows into the river through open drains. Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma emphasized that the initiative will ensure sewage is intercepted, treated, and managed scientifically. It is projected to benefit over 4.17 lakh people across 33 colonies and 14 villages, including Narela, Burari, and Badli, by preventing untreated sewage from entering the Yamuna.

The approval of this project marks a critical step towards addressing the root causes of river pollution, which directly impacts water treatment capabilities and, consequently, water supply reliability for Delhi's residents.
