Delhi's Baansera Park to Get Rs 4-Crore Kashmiri-Style Houseboat with 50-Year Lifespan
Delhi's Baansera Park to Get Rs 4-Crore Kashmiri Houseboat

The Delhi Development Authority is moving forward with an exciting new addition to Baansera Park. Officials confirm plans for a permanent houseboat worth four crore rupees. This unique structure will offer leisure and entertainment facilities for visitors.

A Traditional Design with Modern Facilities

Designers modeled the sixty-foot-long houseboat after traditional Kashmiri houseboats. Artisans will carve intricate Persian-style details throughout the structure. The houseboat will remain permanently fixed to the ground near the park's existing eatery area.

Engineers expect the houseboat to last approximately fifty years. The foundation will feature concrete construction at the plinth level to ensure stability. This permanent installation represents a significant investment in the park's infrastructure.

Spacious Interior Layout

The houseboat will contain multiple functional areas for different purposes. Visitors will find a multi-purpose hall, lobby area, and pantry facilities. The design includes dedicated store rooms and separate eating areas at both the front and rear sections.

Toilet facilities will be available for public use. The middle deck will feature a special glazed meeting hall. This space can accommodate up to fifteen people for corporate meetings or private events.

The meeting area will include its own balcony and additional storage space. Staircases on both sides of the structure will provide easy access to all levels.

Construction Timeline and Process

The Delhi Development Authority has initiated a tendering process to select a construction agency. Officials want to fast-track this project for timely completion. Work should finish within six months after the tender award.

The selected contractor must submit final structural drawings within thirty days of receiving the work award. Alternatively, they must provide these drawings before beginning structural activities, whichever comes first. Independent institutes will vet all structural plans for safety and compliance.

Detailed Construction Specifications

The tender proposal outlines comprehensive work requirements. The scope includes complete architectural, structural, and services design. Builders must create a proper foundation for the houseboat structure.

The superstructure will use structural steel as its primary framework. Workers will install wooden cladding systems throughout the exterior. The project requires complete plumbing and drainage systems for functionality.

Premium Materials and Craftsmanship

Construction will utilize several high-quality wood varieties. Deodar wood will form the base structure. Cedar wood will create the main superstructure framework.

Artisans will craft intricate walnut wood carvings for decorative elements. Ceilings and interior wall panels will feature finished chinar wood. All wood materials will undergo proper seasoning to prevent warping over time.

Workers will seal joints with natural resin or suitable all-weather sealants. This approach ensures long-term durability against Delhi's climate conditions. The entire structure will receive two layers of fire-retardant paint on cleaned wood surfaces.

Architectural Details and Finishes

Expert artisans will carve numerous elements in the Persian style. These details will appear on railings, columns, and mehrab arches. Exterior wall panels will showcase the same intricate craftsmanship.

Cedar wood windows will feature carved sash designs with glass panes. The roof will incorporate eco-friendly, lightweight calcium silicate false ceiling tiles. Deck areas will include installed wooden railings and door frames.

Flooring at the base level will use engineered wood materials. Walls will combine fire-resistant boards with wooden panel finishes. Backsplashes will consist of ceramic tiles, while doors will be made from fire-resistant engineered wood.

Part of Broader Yamuna Restoration

This houseboat project forms part of a larger restoration initiative. The Delhi Development Authority is rejuvenating the Yamuna floodplain stretch. This area runs from Nizamuddin Bridge to the DND Flyway on the western bank.

Baansera Park has seen steady expansion of recreational facilities in recent years. The authority opened Cafe Bamboo Oasis to the public in November 2024. On December first, 2025, they added a tethered hot-air balloon attraction.

The park regularly hosts cultural events and activities. An upcoming Palash Festival will continue this tradition of community engagement. These developments transform the park into a multifaceted recreational destination for Delhi residents.
