Dharwad District Administration Implements Proactive Measures to Address Escalating Summer Water Crisis

As summer conditions intensify across the region, the Dharwad district administration has taken decisive action to prevent a drinking water crisis. With water supply disruptions already reported in 14 villages, authorities are mobilizing resources to ensure uninterrupted access to this essential resource for all residents.

Precautionary Planning and Comprehensive Survey

District Commissioner Snehal R announced on Thursday that the administration, in close coordination with the zilla panchayat, has initiated advanced precautionary measures. The primary objective is to prevent any shortage of drinking water and maintain essential services throughout the challenging summer months. She emphasized that thorough advance planning has been undertaken specifically to mitigate the seasonal impact.

As part of these critical preparations, officials conducted a comprehensive survey to identify vulnerable areas across the district. This assessment revealed that a total of 90 villages spanning various taluks have been classified as water-stressed. To address the potential scarcity proactively, the administration identified 186 private borewells and successfully negotiated agreements with their owners. These arrangements will facilitate emergency water supply when needed.

Water supply is currently operational in multiple villages including Hosatti, Mandihal, Belur, Mugad, Managundi, and Shibaragatti.
  • Hubballi Taluk: The survey identified 19 water-deficient villages out of 46 examined. Authorities have arranged access to 30 private borewells. Presently, water is being supplied to Noolvi, Adargunchi, and Kuradikere villages.
  • Kalaghatagi Taluk: Among 87 villages assessed, 16 were classified as water-scarce. The administration has brought 46 private borewells under formal agreements. Supply is currently active in Nelliharavi Tanda, B Hulikatti, Dyamanakonda, Mukkal, and Hire Hunasikatti villages.

Ongoing Monitoring and Commitment to Crisis Prevention

District Commissioner Snehal R reiterated the administration's unwavering commitment to preventing any drinking water crisis during peak summer. The situation is being closely monitored through continuous assessment and coordination mechanisms. The strategic utilization of private borewells represents a crucial component of the district's emergency response plan, ensuring that vulnerable communities receive timely support.

This multi-pronged approach demonstrates how local governance can effectively address seasonal challenges through proactive planning, resource mobilization, and community collaboration. As temperatures continue to rise, these measures aim to provide stability and reliability in water access for thousands of residents across Dharwad district.
