Digital Census 2027 Phase One Set to Launch on May 15 with Online Self-Enumeration

The inaugural phase of the Digital Census 2027 is scheduled to begin on May 15, marking a significant shift towards a fully digital enumeration process across the state. Residents will have the opportunity to update their responses to 33 specific questions online, with the self-enumeration window opening from April 30 and running until May 14.

Self-Enumeration Portal and Unique ID System

This initial houselisting and housing phase enables citizens to participate through the dedicated web portal at https://se.census.gov.in. Upon submitting their information, individuals will receive a unique self-enumeration (SE) ID via mobile or email. When enumerators conduct the traditional house-to-house exercise, residents can simply share this ID for final data confirmation and submission, streamlining the process and reducing in-person interaction time.

Training Sessions for Field Trainers Underway in Ludhiana

In preparation for this digital transition, a three-day training session for field trainers commenced at the municipal corporation (MC) office on Thursday. As Census-2027 represents the first fully digital census, the program focuses on updated digital tools and standardized procedures to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and transparency. These trainers will subsequently instruct supervisors and enumerators on critical aspects, including household listing, data validation protocols, and the use of handheld electronic devices.

Official Commitments and Monitoring Mechanisms

Senior officials have underscored the census as a vital exercise for national planning, urging trainers to approach their roles with professionalism to accurately reflect the country's true demographic profile. MC commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta highlighted the administration's dedication to a systematic and transparent process, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder cooperation.

The training sessions were conducted under the guidance of commissioner Gupta and joint commissioner-cum-nodal officer Vineet Kumar, with deputy director Ruchi Gupta in attendance. Master trainers Jasbir Singh Sandhu and Upma Kaul led the instruction, supported by superintendent Tarun Goyal and other officials. Continuous monitoring mechanisms have been established to address any operational challenges throughout this digital transition, ensuring a smooth implementation.
