Background and Current Roles

Currently, Sai Prasad serves as the Special Chief Secretary for both the Water Resources Department and the Revenue Department. Additionally, he holds the position of ex-officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, highlighting his close involvement in key governmental functions.

Described as soft-spoken, Sai Prasad is widely recognized for his belief that the primary purpose of administration is to assist the poor and common citizens. The state government appointed Sai Prasad as Chief Secretary in November of last year, while extending the term of the incumbent Chief Secretary, K Vijayanand, by an additional three months. With Vijayanand completing his extended term on Saturday, the government has officially directed Sai Prasad to take over as the head of the state administration.

Career Trajectory and Experience

A native of Prakasam district and the son of a school teacher, Sai Prasad began his career as an Assistant Collector in Warangal from 1992 to 1993, during the era of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Over the years, he has held numerous pivotal positions, including:

  • Assistant Collector in Paderu
  • Commissioner of Guntur Municipal Corporation
  • Joint Collector of Kadapa
  • Collector of Kurnool and Chittoor districts

In the power sector, he has served in key roles such as Joint Managing Director of AP Transco, Chairman and Managing Director of AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited and AP Central Power Distribution Company Limited, and Vice-Chairman of the AP Housing Board. Between 2011 and 2014, he worked as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Power, gaining valuable experience at the national level.

From 2014 to 2019, Sai Prasad served as Secretary and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. During the previous YSRCP regime, he functioned as Chairman and Managing Director of AP Solar Power Corporation Pvt Ltd and ex-officio Principal Secretary (Energy). He also held the crucial position of Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) for over two years.

Following a regime change, Sai Prasad was reassigned to the Water Resources Department as Special Chief Secretary and later given additional charge as Special Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department, showcasing his versatility and trust within the administration.

His extensive career, spanning local governance, energy, and central ministries, positions him as a seasoned administrator ready to lead Andhra Pradesh into its next phase of development.
