Garhwa: Sub Divisional Magistrate Sanjay Kumar invited 50 daily wage workers for coffee and listened to their concerns ahead of International Labour Day at his office on Thursday. The workers were also apprised of the government's labour welfare schemes during the meeting.
Informal Platform for Open Dialogue
The SDM invited workers from the unorganised sector to his office to hear their issues and gather suggestions for reforms. He observed that although people visit his office, most hesitate to express themselves freely. "Daily wage workers toil hard from morning to evening. Under such circumstances, they cannot approach the administration with their individual, domestic, or collective problems. This session focused on providing an informal platform where they can openly share their grievances, complaints, and suggestions," he added.
Labour Welfare Schemes and Registration Drive
During the session, detailed information about various labour welfare schemes launched by the government was provided to the workers. The SDM urged them to register on the Shramadhan Portal before migrating to other states for jobs. Registration on this portal makes workers eligible for direct financial assistance in case of natural disasters, road accidents, disability, and other contingencies.
On the occasion, 15 workers were issued labour cards on the spot, and 10 new workers were registered. The initiative aims to ensure that daily wage workers are aware of and can access the benefits meant for them.
