Panaji: Around 600 buffaloes are expected to be sacrificed in Goa during 'qurbani' for Eid-ul-Azha (Bakri Eid), with the government directing that the ritual slaughter strictly be conducted at Goa Meat Complex Ltd (GMCL), Usgao, only. The slaughter is scheduled to take place on June 28, 29, and 30. The decision was announced during a recent meeting chaired by the chief secretary, C. Candavelou.

Regulations for Animal Transportation

Animals brought for qurbani should arrive at GMCL accompanied by a certificate under Rule 96 of the Transportation of Animals Rules, 2001. Vehicles entering from Mollem, Poinguinim, Keri-Sattari, Dodamarg, and Patradevi have been mandated to inform the authorities in advance.

Meat from Outside Goa

Meat slaughtered outside Goa in approved slaughterhouses will be permitted in the state provided it is accompanied by ante-mortem and postmortem certificates, copies of licences with full addresses and contact numbers, and transported in refrigerated vehicles only. All other procurement of beef or improper transportation of legally sourced beef will be treated as illegal.
