Goa to give Rs 15,000 to private employees with 20 years service

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the Goa government, through the state labour department, will soon provide a one-time payment of Rs 15,000 to every private sector employee in the state who has completed 20 years of service and is registered with the department.

Details of the One-Time Payment

“Those working for more than 20 years in the private sector will be paid a one-time amount of Rs 15,000. We will hold an event to hand it over soon. Those working for 20 years and who are registered with the labour department will receive it from the government’s end, as their contribution to the state is also important,” the Chief Minister said.

He explained that a small contribution is made by private sector employees to the labour department, from which the payout will be made. Sawant noted that there are over two lakh private sector employees in the state.

Insurance Coverage Under PM Scheme

Sawant also stated that 100% coverage of all private sector employees will be ensured under the Prime Minister’s insurance scheme. “I have already declared on May 1 at the labour department’s programme that those working in the private sector will be covered under the Pradhan Mantri insurance scheme. We will make the payment on their behalf through the labour department. It will become easy if we do it through banks,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that usually, those working in the government sector receive benefits of different schemes, but private sector employees are often denied them. He emphasized that the distribution of benefits should be pursued by banks and industries in an organized manner by taking suitable initiatives.

“It can be done in an organized manner. I have already given instructions to my labour department. Often the government sector employees get benefits as it is organized, but these employees do not,” he reiterated.
