Ahmedabad: After nearly a decade of persistent representations by employees, Gujarat University (GU) has finally announced promotions for 25 non-teaching staff members. Along with the announcement, the university has invited objections or suggestions, if any, to be emailed by 6 pm on April 27. It has clarified that representations received after the deadline will not be taken into account.
Recruitment Process Underway
The university is currently in the midst of its recruitment process for non-teaching staff. After completion of the first phase of examinations, the second phase has been scheduled for April 29 and 30. Despite ongoing controversies and objections, the recruitment drive is slated to proceed as planned.
Decade-Long Demand Finally Addressed
Sources said employees had been demanding promotions for nearly 10 years, but authorities were reluctant to move ahead fearing internal disputes. On several occasions, the promotion exercise was initiated but subsequently put on hold. Now, with fresh recruitments in the pipeline, the university has completed the long-pending promotion process.
The promotions cover positions such as assistant registrar, professional assistant, technical assistant, assistant librarian, section officer, accounts officer, head clerk, accountant, and senior clerk. Many of the vacancies emerged due to retirements, deaths, or upward movement of employees.
Relief for Employees
The long-delayed move has benefited a large number of employees, offering relief after years of stagnation. The university has urged eligible staff to submit any objections or suggestions by the specified deadline to ensure a smooth process.
