Gurgaon Admin Reaches Out to RWAs for Voter Roll Revision

The district administration in Gurgaon is set to collaborate with resident welfare associations (RWAs) and municipal corporators to enhance participation in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, particularly in residential and group housing societies. On Wednesday, Gurgaon Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sonu Bhatt urged citizens, especially RWAs, to provide accurate and complete information when booth-level officers (BLOs) conduct door-to-door surveys.

Objective of the SIR Campaign

The initiative aims to improve voter registration and verification in urban areas before the publication of the draft voter list. Officials confirmed that the draft electoral roll will be published on July 21. Following its release, claims and objections regarding inclusion, deletion, or correction of voter details will be accepted from July 21 to September 18. All claims and objections will be examined and resolved according to prescribed procedures before the final electoral roll is prepared. Voters whose names do not appear in the draft list will receive notices and an opportunity to submit claims with supporting documents.

ADC's Statement on Accuracy

Bhatt emphasized, “The objective of the SIR campaign is to make the electoral roll completely accurate and error-free, so that every name included in the list is eligible and genuine. The accuracy of the electoral roll is the foundation of a strong democratic system, and the SIR campaign will play an important role in this direction.” He stressed that the district administration must complete the process in a fair, transparent, and systematic manner, adhering to Election Commission directives.

Meeting with Electoral Officers

Bhatt held a meeting with electoral registration officers (EROs) and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) to discuss preparations for the SIR 2026 campaign. He stated that under the campaign, names of deceased, transferred, and other ineligible voters will be removed, while eligible youth who turn 18 by July 1 will be added to the electoral roll.

Training and Survey Timeline

The ADC directed officials to organize special training for officers and employees from June 5 to June 15, followed by door-to-door surveys by BLOs from June 15 to July 14. He urged citizens to share information about deceased, transferred, or ineligible voters in their families or neighborhoods and to provide necessary details for enrolling eligible youth who will complete 18 years of age by July 1.

Involvement of Political Parties

Bhatt asked all sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) to contact political parties and ensure that those yet to appoint booth-level agents (BLA-2) complete the process promptly. This step aims to make the SIR campaign more effective, transparent, and successful. He directed all EROs and AEROs to ensure regular monitoring of the campaign and continuously review survey work in their respective areas. Bhatt emphasized that there should be no errors in the revision process and that all officers must discharge their responsibilities with complete accountability and seriousness.
