Officials from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation recently conducted a detailed site inspection. Their goal was clear: to find the perfect spot for building a brand new west zone office.
Key Locations Under Consideration
The inspection team focused on several promising plots across the city. Three primary sites emerged as strong contenders.
Potential Sites Examined
- A 4,500 square foot plot at the busy ITI Junction
- A 2,500 square foot area near the bustling Gopalapatnam fish market
- A spacious 9,000 square foot location at Simhachalam railway station
Commissioner Ketan Garg personally led this important inspection. He was accompanied by West Zone Zonal Commissioner B Ramu. Together, they examined these three key locations plus several other potential sites throughout Visakhapatnam.
Why This Move Matters
This search for a new office location comes directly from recent administrative changes. Visakhapatnam officially transitioned from an eight-zone system to a ten-zone structure on January 1st.
Commissioner Garg explained the reasoning behind this expansion. "The state government increased GVMC zones from eight to ten to enhance administrative convenience," he stated during the inspection.
The current west zone office sits in Gnanapuram. According to officials, this location presents accessibility challenges for the public. A more suitable, easily reachable office has become necessary to serve residents effectively.
Next Steps for the Project
Following the thorough site visits, Commissioner Garg issued clear instructions. He directed GVMC officials to prepare a comprehensive detailed report. This document must cover all relevant aspects of the potential construction sites.
The report will serve as a crucial decision-making tool. It will help determine which of the inspected locations ultimately gets selected for the new west zone office construction.
This entire initiative forms part of a broader effort to improve municipal administration in Visakhapatnam. The zone reorganization aims to streamline services and make government offices more accessible to every citizen.
