In a significant push for infrastructure development, the Haryana government has finalised tenders worth a massive Rs 4,016 crore. The decisions were taken during a crucial meeting of the High Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC), which was chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh.
Major Decisions and Substantial Savings
The committee reviewed a total of 58 tenders during the meeting, which concluded on Saturday evening. While discussions on two tenders were withheld, detailed negotiations were held for the remaining 56 projects. These tenders had an initial estimated cost of around Rs 4,166 crore. Through a rigorous negotiation process with bidders, the government managed to finalise the total agreed value at approximately Rs 4,016 crore.
This process resulted in an estimated saving of about Rs 150 crore for the state exchequer. A government spokesperson highlighted that this achievement strengthens the state's financial management, ensures transparency, and promotes the efficient utilisation of public resources.
Power Sector Gets a Major Boost
A key focus area of the meeting was the strengthening of the power distribution network across Haryana. The committee granted approval for awarding crucial works to firms that successfully completed the tender process. These projects are aimed at:
- Developing distribution infrastructure.
- Reducing technical and commercial line losses.
- Establishing new 33 kV substations.
- Expanding and strengthening existing substations.
These upgrades will be implemented in various areas under both the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) and the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN). Furthermore, the meeting also approved the implementation of advanced SCADA and DMS/OMS systems in Gurugram to enhance grid management and outage response.
Urban Development and Key Projects Approved
Beyond the energy sector, the committee green-lit several other vital projects related to urban development and basic infrastructure. Notable approvals include:
For Sonipat: The four-laning and improvement of the remaining stretches of master roads connecting Sectors 5/6, 6/9, and 5/10 under the Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority.
For Panchkula: The construction of a new high-level bridge near the existing bridge close to the Panchkula Golf Club. This bridge will connect Sector 3 and Sector 21 with Sector-23 and Sector-25 over the Ghaggar river and will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode. Projects for the beautification and rejuvenation of two water channels passing through the city under the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA) were also approved.
