Haryana Extends Smart City Projects Deadline to 2027

The Haryana government has extended the tenure of Karnal Smart City Limited and its project management consultancy until March 31, 2027, to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects and the smooth handover of assets to the concerned departments. Similarly, the Faridabad Smart City Limited project has also been granted an extension until the same date.

This decision was disclosed during a meeting of the state-level high-powered steering committee (SLHPSC), chaired by Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi on Thursday, to review the progress of Smart City Mission projects in Karnal and Faridabad. During the meeting, it was stated that the extension was granted in line with the directions of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) so that the remaining projects nearing completion could be executed efficiently and citizens could continue to benefit from modern urban infrastructure.

Rastogi reviewed the physical and financial progress of projects being implemented under the Smart City Mission in both cities and appreciated the pace of development works. He said the mission significantly strengthened urban infrastructure, improved civic amenities, and enhanced the quality of life for citizens through modern and technology-driven development initiatives.

Ashok Kumar Meena, Commissioner and Secretary of the Urban Local Bodies Department, provided detailed updates. He said Faridabad Smart City Limited undertook 46 projects worth Rs 916.83 crore, out of which 32 projects have been completed. Similarly, Karnal Smart City Limited took up 122 projects worth Rs 930 crore, with 86 projects completed and several others in advanced stages of execution.

The extension ensures that the remaining projects, which are near completion, can be finished without interruption, and the newly created assets can be handed over to the respective departments for long-term maintenance and operation. This move is expected to further boost urban development and provide residents with improved infrastructure and services.
