The Haryana government has mandated that all cab aggregators and delivery partners operating in the National Capital Region (NCR) must use only CNG or electric vehicles. This decision aims to curb rising air pollution levels in the region.
Key Highlights of the New Rule
The state transport department issued a notification stating that no new permits will be granted for diesel or petrol vehicles for commercial operations in the NCR areas. Existing permits for such vehicles will not be renewed after their expiry. The rule applies to all app-based cab services, delivery aggregators, and other commercial transport operators.
Impact on Aggregators and Drivers
Cab aggregators like Ola, Uber, and food delivery platforms such as Swiggy and Zomato will have to comply with the new norms. Drivers who currently use diesel or petrol vehicles will need to switch to CNG or electric alternatives. The government has assured support for the transition, including subsidies for electric vehicle purchases and installation of charging stations.
Environmental Benefits
The move is expected to significantly reduce vehicular emissions in the NCR, which is one of the most polluted regions in the world. CNG vehicles emit lower levels of harmful pollutants compared to diesel and petrol, while electric vehicles produce zero tailpipe emissions.
Haryana's decision aligns with the central government's push for cleaner fuels and electric mobility. The state aims to set an example for other regions grappling with air quality issues.
