The Central government has delivered a significant boost for electricity consumers in Haryana. It earmarked coal linkage for a new 800 MW expansion unit at the Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant in Khedar, Hisar district. This move promises to enhance power supply reliability across the state.
Shakti Scheme Drives Key Allocation
Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij announced the development. He stated the coal linkage comes under the Central government's Shakti Scheme. This scheme supports power projects by ensuring fuel security.
The earmarking means a new coal block will soon be allotted to Haryana. This guarantees a regular, long-term coal supply for the 800 MW project. Minister Vij emphasized this step will accelerate project implementation.
Eliminating Power Disruptions
The minister highlighted a critical benefit. The coal linkage will prevent future disruptions in power generation due to fuel shortages. This strengthens Haryana's energy security directly.
It also helps meet the growing electricity demand effectively. The Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant serves as the backbone of Haryana's power system. Its expansion with this new unit will significantly boost the state's overall generation capacity.
Benefits for All Consumer Segments
Once operational, the new unit will provide adequate electricity to various sectors. Industrial areas, the agricultural sector, and domestic consumers will all gain. The state government aims to make Haryana self-reliant in power.
This initiative focuses on delivering affordable, sustainable, and uninterrupted electricity to consumers. The Central government's coal linkage earmarking marks a major achievement toward this goal. It strengthens Haryana's long-term energy planning considerably.
Catalyst for Economic Growth
Minister Vij expressed strong confidence in the project's broader impact. He noted it will further strengthen the state's power supply system. Additionally, it will act as a catalyst for employment generation and industrial expansion.
This project is expected to spur overall economic growth at the local level. The Haryana government remains firmly committed to reinforcing and modernizing the state's energy infrastructure. In the coming years, Haryana is poised to emerge as a frontrunner among states in the energy sector.
Clarity on Jharkhand Coal Block
Minister Vij also addressed media queries about another coal asset. He reiterated that the coal block allocation to Haryana in Jharkhand remains intact. The Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited is working to make it operational by the set deadline.
This block was allocated in 2008 in the Kalyanpur-Badlpura area. Vij confirmed boundary demarcation is complete. A technical hitch caused a delay in obtaining clearance as per the Government of India's deadline.
The state has responded to a show-cause notice on the matter. Further developments are currently on course. This assurance provides additional stability to Haryana's power generation plans.
