Hassan DC: Office Heads Responsible for Stray Dogs, Green City Push

Hassan District Commissioner Enforces Stray Dog Accountability and Green City Initiatives

In a significant move to enhance urban management, Hassan District Commissioner KS Latha Kumari has issued a directive holding heads of government offices and private institutions within the district's urban local jurisdiction responsible for stray dogs found on their premises. This announcement was made during a progress review meeting focused on various urban development projects.

Strict Mandate on Stray Dog Control

DC Latha Kumari emphasized that it is now the mandatory duty of office heads to ensure their premises are free from stray dogs. She directed them to provide immediate information about any stray dogs to local authorities, making them accountable for preventing these animals from inhabiting their areas. This measure aims to address public safety and hygiene concerns linked to stray dog populations in urban settings.

'Green Hassan' Initiative for Environmental Enhancement

Under the theme 'Green Hassan', the DC launched a comprehensive environmental drive. She stressed the need for all local bodies, government offices, and government lands to actively participate in tree planting efforts to foster a greener city. Specific targets include planting over 5,000 trees within the municipal corporation's jurisdiction and more than 2,000 trees in city and town council areas. This initiative seeks to improve air quality and create a more sustainable urban environment by increasing green cover along roads and public spaces.

Cleanliness and Public Awareness Campaigns

In addition to the green push, DC Latha Kumari outlined several cleanliness measures. She instructed officials to clear roads and footpaths to facilitate smooth public movement and take strict action against those disposing of waste on roadsides at night. To combat littering, she urged hotels, bars, and restaurants to place waste bins in front of their establishments and ensure their vicinity remains clean. Public awareness regarding proper waste disposal will be increased, and steps will be taken to prevent contamination of drinking water sources, prioritizing a clean and healthy city for residents.

Meeting Attendees and Broader Urban Projects

The progress review meeting saw the presence of key officials, including Rudramuni, the project director of the district urban development cell, Krishnamurthy, commissioner of the municipal corporation, and all taluk chief officers. Discussions covered various projects within the jurisdiction of urban local bodies in Hassan district, highlighting a holistic approach to urban development that balances environmental sustainability with public health and safety.
