Bengaluru's Hennur-Bagalur Road White-Topping Project Nears Completion by June 15

The ambitious white-topping project on the Hennur-Bagalur Road in Bengaluru is on track for completion by June 15, according to official statements. Authorities have confirmed that the main carriageway work is expected to be finalized by May, with the remaining footpath and utility development scheduled to wrap up within an additional three-month period.

Official Inspection and Acceleration Orders

In a recent site inspection on Wednesday, Maheshwar Rao, the chief commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), directed officials to expedite the pace of construction. Rao mandated the deployment of additional staff and instructed that buffer zones and footpaths be developed concurrently with the white-topping activities to ensure timely project delivery.

Project Delays and Challenges

Initiated in April 2025 with an original 11-month deadline, the project faced significant setbacks due to logistical hurdles. A senior official from B-SMILE, the executing agency, revealed that delays stemmed from inadequate traffic police clearances for working on larger sections of the road.

"We were permitted to work on only a quarter portion of the road at any given time," the official explained. "Each segment had to be fully completed and reopened to traffic before we could proceed to the next. Compounding the issue, all construction was restricted to nighttime hours, which further slowed progress."

Recent Progress and Current Status

Over the past four months, however, the situation has improved markedly. Authorities have now granted permission to work on half the road at a time, leading to accelerated advancements. Officials report that the carriageway work is nearing completion, while development of footpaths and buffer zones has also commenced in parallel.

The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 86.29 crore, covers a 5.5-kilometer stretch from Hennur Cross to Bagalur Cross, spanning two Assembly constituencies. To date, approximately 4.2 kilometers on one side and 2.2 kilometers on the opposite side have been successfully completed, marking substantial headway toward the final goal.
