Himachal Education Minister Rohit Thakur Urges Swift Resolution of Public Grievances
Shimla, June 17, 2026 – Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Tuesday directed officials to promptly address public grievances during a meeting of the District Public Grievance Redressal Committee in Shimla. The meeting saw residents raising issues related to roads, health, water supply, and other essential services.
Presiding over the session, Minister Thakur emphasized the need for swift action to ensure that citizens do not face unnecessary hardships. He instructed the district administration to resolve all raised concerns at the ground level and assured that another grievance committee meeting would be convened later this year to monitor progress.
Disaster Relief and Infrastructure Restoration
During the meeting, Thakur highlighted the extensive damage caused by natural disasters in Shimla district in 2023 and 2025, which resulted in losses worth crores of rupees. He noted that roads, drinking water schemes, houses, and other infrastructure suffered severe damage. However, he credited the state government's special disaster relief package for restoring normalcy in the affected areas.
“The state government provided all possible assistance to the affected people. Due to the government’s special disaster relief package, normalcy has now largely been restored,” Thakur stated.
Role of the District Public Grievance Redressal Committee
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap explained that the District Public Grievance Redressal Committee is a crucial administrative mechanism designed to ensure speedy, impartial, and effective resolution of public complaints. Operating at the district level, the committee serves as a strong bridge between citizens and the administration.
Through this committee, complaints, problems, and suggestions related to various government departments are heard, and necessary directions are issued for their resolution. The primary objective is to promote transparency, accountability, and public trust in governance.
Minister Thakur reiterated that all officers should work diligently to resolve public grievances, emphasizing the government's commitment to citizen welfare. The next committee meeting is expected to review the implementation of directives issued during this session.
