West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari Announces Major Infrastructure Boost for Coastal Towns
Bengal CM Unveils Coastal Infrastructure Overhaul Plan

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday announced a comprehensive infrastructure and security overhaul for the coastal areas of Digha, Mandarmani, Tajpur, Shankarpur, and Udaypur. The blueprint aims to enhance tourist experience and safety along the state's coastline.

Tourist Fee Withdrawn

Adhikari stated that the existing Rs 10 tourist subscription fee will be withdrawn from July 1. 'I feel that taking Rs 10 from those who are paying income-tax and GST is highly objectionable,' he remarked, emphasizing the need to reduce financial burden on visitors.

Focus on Safety and Healthcare

The Chief Minister stressed the 'lack of basic hospital services' in the region and announced a significant increase in the number of nulias (traditional lifeguards) to enhance beach safety for the lakhs of tourists visiting these destinations annually.

Major Infrastructure Projects

Adhikari revealed plans for a Mumbai-style Marine Drive along the coast and a deep-sea port at Dadanpatrabar. 'There is 1,700 acres of land available,' he noted, adding that the administration will expedite land acquisition for the Nandakumar-Digha double railway line to improve connectivity.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to boost tourism and economic development in the region, ensuring better facilities and security for visitors while addressing local infrastructure gaps.
